
Mike Wilks was born on May 7, 1979 in Milwaukee, WI. He attended Rufus King High School. Athletically, he was a member of a boy’s basketball state championship team, a two-time City Conference player of the year, first team all-city, all-area, all state, and was named Wisconsin’s “Mr. Basketball”. Academically, he graduated with a cumulative 3.85 GPA.
After graduating from Rufus King, Mike attended Rice University in Houston, Texas on a basketball scholarship. During his four years at Rice he was a 3-year starter. His senior year he led the team in scoring, and was named by the College Insider as the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Player of the Year. Academically, Mike graduated in 2001 with a B.A. in Economics.
Mike began his professional basketball career as an undrafted free agent. He spent the 2001-02 season in the National Basketball Developmental League (NBDL), playing for the Mobile Revelers and the Huntsville Flight. He started 2002-03 season by returning to the Huntsville Flight (NBDL). During the season he was called up to the NBA, signing with the Atlanta Hawks and later with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He went on to spend the next 5 seasons with several NBA teams including the Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, Cleveland Cavaliers, Seattle Supersonics, Denver Nuggets and Washington Wizards. After spending part of the 2007-2008 season in the NBA, he journeyed to Siena, Italy to play professionally. For the 2008-2009 he returned to the NBA to play for the Orlando Magic. During his professional career Mike has been on two championship teams, which include the 2005 NBA World Champion San Antonio Spurs, and the 2008 Italian League Champion Montepaschi Siena. In 2009, Mike played with the Orland Magic and then was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. Currently, he is still pursuing his NBA career.
Personally, Mike is a Christian that credits God for all that he is and has accomplished. He currently resides in Alabama with his wife Kimberly and son Isaiah.
